Learn How to Dress Yourself in Kimono
Putting on a kimono may seem complicated at first. With a clear sequence and a little practice, however, each step quickly becomes easier to understand.
In my lessons, you will learn how to dress yourself in kimono and tie an obi. The lessons are taught personally and at your own pace.
No previous experience is required, and you do not need to own a kimono yet.
Learn Kimono Dressing Step by Step
My own journey with kimono began through the Japanese tea ceremony.
I wanted to wear kimono not only for special occasions, but also to learn how to dress myself. Today, I study kitsuke—the art of kimono dressing—in depth and continue learning from teachers in Japan.
In my lessons, I do more than simply demonstrate each technique. It is important to me that you understand what you are doing so that you can continue practising independently at home.
My Kimono Lessons
Beginner’s Course
For anyone who would like to learn kimono dressing from the very beginning.
We go through the entire process together: preparation, nagajuban, kimono and obi. The regular lessons give you plenty of time to review and practise each step.
8 lessons of 120 minutes each
90-Minute Private Lesson
A private lesson is suitable if you would like to:
- try kimono dressing for the first time;
- practise a particular step;
- receive help with your own kimono;
- improve your current technique.
The lesson content is tailored to your questions and current level of experience.h deinen Fragen und deinem aktuellen Stand.
One-Day Kimono Lesson
A compact, intensive course for those who live farther away or would like to learn the complete dressing process in one day (5–6 hours).
We practise the preparation, putting on the kimono and tying the obi. Afterwards, you will have a clear sequence to follow so that you can continue practising independently at home.
Online Lessons
Do you live outside North Rhine-Westphalia or prefer to continue practising from home?
Online lessons are available for both beginners and more experienced learners. You will need your own kimono and accessories, as well as enough space in front of the camera.
The lessons are recorded, allowing you to watch them again later and repeat each step at your own pace.

For lessons in Neuss, selected kimono, obi and dressing accessories can be provided by prior arrangement.
If you already own a kimono, you are welcome to bring it with you. Together, we can check whether you have everything you need and discuss how best to use each item.
Lesson Information
Kimono lessons take place at Biyori in Neuss, near Düsseldorf.
Lessons are available privately or in a very small group and can be taught in Japanese or English.
